WHAT’S UNIQUE?

One can tell that the Tompkins Square Greenmarket is a special one at first sight.  The extensive market snakes around the corner of  Tompkins Square Park, a very shady and busy park in which people lounge, sit, or walk cheerfully.  Alive with a chorus of voices and rich with a famous past, Alphabet City is an ideal location for a market.  Interesting foods it offers include organic shelled fava beans – a rare sight in Greenmarkets –  six different types of mushrooms, and duck. The Tompkins Square Greenmarket is a must-visit for anyone in the area.

PRICING

As expected, the organic selection at the market is more pricey than the nonorganic; however, as compared with other markets the prices at this one are regular.

Apples: $1.50/lb

Organic Bicolor Corn: $1.00 each

Organic Eggplant: $5.00/lb

Chicken Breast: $6.75/lb

Zucchini Walnut Bread: $3.00/piece

CONVENIENCE

Tompkins Square is an optimal location for a farmer’s market because of the traffic that passes by and the proximity to the park and the street. The subway station is not too far away, and the temptation to enter the market is absolutely irresistible when exiting Tompkins Square Park.

FINAL COMMENTS

Whether the people one sees in the Tompkins Square area are walking their dogs, going for a stroll or heatedly discussing the importance of healthy eating, the neighborhood and the delicious variety make the Tompkins Square Greenmarket excellent.
